Studio Policies

2023-2024 Studio Policies

1. Studio fees must be pre-paid per semester in order to maintain a standing appointment. Invoices pertaining to re-occuring lessons can be paid in full or in two instalments. Please click HERE to view complete information on our lesson rates, registration fee, and in-home travel fees.

2(i). Students are given a grace period of two weeks from the time of registration to withdraw from lessons without penalty;

2(ii). If a student wishes to withdraw from lessons (following the two-week grace period), the studio reserves the right to collect a cancellation fee equivalent to what three lessons would cost. The cancellation fee can be waived, provided that advance notice (minimum three weeks) is given. After the notice to withdraw from lessons has been provided, any remaining lessons missed by the student will be ineligible for make-up and related fees will be forfeited;

2(iii). Fees equivalent to the value of pre-paid lessons not taken (including unused travel fees, where applicable) will be refunded, minus the cancellation fee if advance notice was not provided.

3. A student may request to change their standing appointment out of a need to resolve an unforeseen scheduling conflict. Changes to a schedule are subject to approval of the instructor. Once a change has confirmed and processed, the studio reserves the right to offer the vacated lesson time to another student at its discretion.

4(i). Regarding all student absences: students are guaranteed credits for two make-up lessons for the term. Subsequent absences will result in forfeited lesson fees. Any further make-up lessons must be requested for in writing and will only be provided at the instructor’s discretion;

4(ii). For any instructor absences, make-up lessons will be provided. In the rare event that the instructor is unable to accommodate a make-up lesson, a refund will be issued.

5. Any unused travel fees will be credited back to the student’s account.

6(i). Students registered for in-home lessons must be prepared to go online at any time;

6(ii). When a student is under the age of 10, an older family member must be at home while lessons take place. While we care for our students’ general safety and well-being, and will conduct lessons with the utmost professionalism, our services are limited to musical instruction only. We will not be held responsible for providing additional care beyond the scope of our services in the absence of an adult caregiver;

6(iii). It is important that all members of the household are free of cold- or flu-like symptoms for an in-home lesson to occur. This strict policy is in place in order to protect the health of all in-home students and their family members. If an online lesson is not an option due to logistical reasons or due to the student’s state of health, the lesson, subject to our make-up lesson policy (see #4), will be cancelled and marked as a student absence.

6(iv). If a student begins to experience any symptoms during a lesson, the lesson will conclude immediately and will be marked as a lesson attended and fulfilled;

6(v). Regarding in-home lesson spaces: students/parents are expected to maintain a clean and tidy learning environment. Please dust and sanitize piano keys regularly, as well other pieces of furniture used for a lesson. Ventilating the space is no longer mandatory (as with wearing masks) but is still recommended.

7(i). Students taking Buddy Lessons are expected to attend lessons in pairs in order to ensure progress as a team;

7(ii). In the event that one student is unable attend a lesson, it is the instructor’s sole discretion to determine whether the lesson will either be a) taught as a private lesson in lieu of a student cancellation, or; b) cancelled and subject to policy #4.

The studio reserves the right to amend the above policies at any time.
