Semi-Private Lessons

Semi-private, in-home lessons for families looking to learn together.

We offer family members who are new (or relatively new) to piano lessons the option of learning how to play the piano together. Two siblings can learn how to read music, play songs, and develop their musicianship skills side-by-side at the piano. This program is most suitable for siblings who are close in age and are at the same playing level. However, parents are welcome to enrol in this program as well.

Beginner repertoire that we explore in lessons include:

  • recognizable compositions written by Classical composers, adapted for both solo and duet beginner performance

  • new piano music written by our instructor, Joanna Borromeo

  • songs performed by major recording artists and musical groups

  • other musical works composed by lesser-known Classical composers and contemporary artists

The musicianship skills we focus on in this program are:

  • music theory

  • sight-reading

  • rhythm and time-feel

  • memory

  • ear training

  • technique

  • basic chord theory

Instrument requirements:

  • one full-length piano (acoustic and digital pianos are both acceptable)

  • one piano bench that can accommodate two players (two piano benches can also work)
